On April 17-18, 2017, a four-member panel from the Higher Learning Commission visited the campus and held 17 meetings, including three open forums, a student-only forum, and focused meetings in which more than 450 faculty, staff, students and administrators participated. UAMS accreditation was reaffirmed with the next reaffirmation of accreditation occurring on October 5-6, 2026.

Institutional accreditation is critical as it ensures institutions meet acceptable quality standards. Accreditation allows students to receive federal financial aid and ensures that credits earned at one institution are recognized and transferable to others.
